Obama: Afghan election marks important milestone : Stltoday

Republicans appear to believe they can simply defer action until 2015. But at that point, the GOP presidential primary will be underway, and its not hard to see presidential hopeful Ted Cruz free demagoguing the heck out of the issue, setting in motion an anti-amnesty sludgefest. That could make it harder for more sensible GOP candidates to discuss serious reform and harder for Congressional Republicans to act. Plus, the current Senate bill will have expired. Action next year would also require a new Senate bill, voted on by folks like Marco Rubio, who may also be running for president and is already looking to get right with conservatives. In short, theres a realrisk that it could onlybecome harderfor Republicans to act next year, not easier, meaning that if they dont act by this summer, they could be heading into another presidential election without having fixedtheir problem with Latinos. <br>Source: <a href='; ></a&gt;

The White House has been staring into the Mouth of Hell for months as the law's implementation woes dragged down President Obama's approval rating and threatened his second-term agenda. With the announcement that more than 7 million Americans have signed up for health insurance, it might feel like the long Obamacare winter is finally over. The sun is shining, birds are chirping. You can almost see Julie Andrews spinning around in the Alps. "The long Obamacare winter is finally over"? Because a man who has told lie after lie about this law claimed that he had not only reached, but surpassed, his projected goal? <br>Source: <a href='; ></a&gt;

Obama is congratulating the millions of Afghans who defied threats from the Taliban and went to the polls. Turnout in some places Saturday was so high that polling places ran out of ballots. Partial results are expected Sunday. Obama says the election to choose a successor to President Hamid Karzai (HAH'-mihd KAHR'-zeye) is critical to securing Afghanistan's democratic future and continued international support.
