Letters: Big buildings in little Hollywood

Vice President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. PHOTOS: China Box Office: 10 Highest-Grossing Movies of All Time In almost any other circumstance, Hollywood studios would balk at allowing their movies to continue to be released in the country. But with China on track to become the largest moviegoing market in the world within the next five years, studios are reluctant to hold back product as they establish a long-term foothold. Insiders say MPAA chairman/CEO Chris Dodd is working on resolving the issue, although neither the MPAA nor any of the studios would officially comment because of the sensitive nature of the situation. One source says there’s internal disagreement within the Chinese government about who should cover the tax. THR has reached out to the China Film Group for comment.

Apparently these people think they know better than geologists and seismologists. Many people I know have already stopped going to Hollywood because of the overdevelopment and hideous electronic billboards. The current proposal would make Hollywood more like Broadway in New York, and that’s not a good thing. Also

Hollywood liberals defy conservatives (Photos)

Here are some other Obama loving liberals: Garth Brooks said in an interview, speaking about Barack Obama, “I love him to death.” Morgan Freeman, speaking about Obama says, “I think what he most wants to do is get our country back on track.” Madonna feels that with Obama in the White House there is hope for the country and she says that because he is fighting for gay rights, people should support him. Jamie Foxx has said, “First of all, give honor to God and our Lord and Savior Barack Obama.” These last two are included in the list just because their comments are so harsh and threatening. This shows, indeed, the hatred liberals, particularly those in Hollywood, have for any who are conservative or who are connected to the Tea Party in any way. Last December actress Marg Helgenberger tweeted this: One can only hope that members of the NRA get shot in response to another tweet.

Hollywood to renovate Sherman Street Bridge

‘The Bridge’s’ Demian Bichir: Hollywood Always Throws in a Little Filth When Depicting Mexico

After the tide goes back out, it’s not at all certain that many so-called “bombs” deserve their much-mocked fates. “Cleopatra,” the 1963 extravaganza, became infamous for the torrid love affair between stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, as well as the monumental problems in mounting the film, which took three years to make. (Among other things, it was slowed by Taylor’s emergency tracheotomy and terrible weather.) The final result was actually well-reviewed, nominated for nine Oscars and winning four. It was the highest-grossing film of the year. But today, it’s still a synonym for “debacle,” thanks to the gossip and its rumored $45 million budget (more than $300 million in today’s money). Similarly, “Heaven’s Gate,” the 1980 Michael Cimino drama, spawned tales of directorial excess and drug usage.

City spokeswoman Raelin Storey said work will focus on one section of the bridge. “The repairs are pretty much concentrated to the extended wing wall that’s at the southeast corner of the bridge,” she said. “The work is expected to take about two months to complete.” Storey said the city is being proactive with the project. “[The bridge] is structurally sound for traffic,” she said.

You don’t find too many shows with full scenes in Spanish with subtitles. That makes it more real. When the Mexican characters are in Mexico, they speak Spanish. Sometimes we speak Spanglish, too.

Hollywood star Gerard Butler tells how visits to his homeland help keep him grounded

Hollywood Re-Accredited by Safety Alliance

Ive been in some pretty crazy car crashes that Ive come across. One time, a guy had been beaten by six other guys who were just kicking him and kicking him. I jumped in there, not knowing what would happen, and the same thing has happened to me. Once I was getting the s*** kicked out of me and three guys Id never met came over and saved me. I think if you put yourself out there, then hopefully it comes back to you. Karma?

The re-accreditation followed a complete review of all racing operations at the facility that received its initial alliance accreditation in June 2009. During the latest Alliance inspection of Betfair Hollywood Park, best practices were identified in virtually every primary area of focus of the alliance, according to an NTRA release. In the area of injury reporting and prevention, best practices identified included participation in the Equine Injury Database; pre-race and post-race veterinary examination protocols of the California Horse Racing Board regulatory and track veterinarians; the California Post Mortem Program; and veterinarians’ list protocols of the CHRB. In areas intended to create a safer racing environment, best practices cited at Hollywood included toe grab, cushion crop and safety helmet regulation and enforcement; starting gate padding and protocols for its manning and removal; equine ambulance equipment and protocols; rider medical care and ambulance support; protocols in case of catastrophic injury; fire safety preparedness; infectious disease management and prevention protocols; and ensuring practicing veterinarians are on the grounds when horses are present. In the area of equine drug testing and penalties, best practices identified included total carbon dioxide (milkshaking) regulation and testing procedures; the CHRB out of competition testing program; and accreditation of the University of California, Davis Testing Lab.
